The Tiddim Road Bus Drivers Union by way of showing solidarity to the agitation initiated by Apunba Lup, has decided to suspend bus services between Imphal to Churachandpur for one day in support of the demands of the Apunba Lup for the resignation of the chief minister on moral grounds, dismissal of the guilty police personnel who were involved in the incident and unconditional release of the arrested members of the Apunba Lup.
It may be mentioned that since Tehelka magazine had exposed photographically that the July 23 killing of a reformed militant Ch. Sanjit was a fake encounter, Manipur has been hit by bandhs, curfews, rallies, sit-in-protests, burning of effigies of chief minister and police commandos, etc.
The suspension of bus service along the Tiddim road by the bus drivers union put into inconvenience many government employees, businessmen and women selling vegetables in Imphal markets who had to find alternative means of transport to travel between Imphal and Churachandpur.
When asked by Newmai News Network about problems faced to travel between Imphal and Churachandpur due to the suspension of bus services today by the bus drivers union of Tiddim road, a woman selling vegetables in Imphal lamented that she had to spent Rs 100 as fare by van instead of Rs 45 by bus for a one way journey, and now she had to sell her vegetables at double the usual price which is bound to reduce her sale for the day.
The woman, who is a widow named Thangi from Churachandpur, said that she feeds her three children by selling vegetables brought from Churachandpur at Imphal and added that she and her children have to miss a meal if she cannot sell her vegetables for the day. On the other hand, the government employees from Imphal posted at Churachandpur also faced problems traveling between Imphal to Churachandpur due to suspension of bus service along the Tiddim road.
