Meghalaya: BDR men walk in, BSF fires in air

BSF jawans on Thursday fired in the air and detained a BDR personnel who along with several others tried to intrude into Indian territory in Meghalaya.

One of the armed BDR personnel was caught and was later handed over to Bangladeshi authorities at a flag meeting.
There was no casualty in the firing, BSF said.

BSF also lodged a protest with Bangladeshi authorities over the incident.
Sources said there was a build-up by BDR along some stretches opposite the areas of adverse possession, raising tension along the border.
"Security has been tightened along the border and vigil been carried out to check illegal infiltration," a BSF statement later said.
There were at least six violations of status quo by BDR along the international border last year, with the Bangladeshi border guards obstructing Indian villagers from cultivating and confronting BSF patrols in disputed areas along the Meghalaya border.
