Project Description:

The North East of India is a high conflict region comprising of eight states bordering five countries making it susceptible to human trafficking of women and children. The Meghalaya Model created and implemented by Impulse's team leader enabled trafficked cases in this area to be rescued, repatriated, and rehabilitated through a system of networking. This model is not project based but is a holistic method of intervening trafficking cases. The model has also created a database system that makes information sharing and recording more effective.

Julia is nominating this project because:

This project deserves noteworthy attention because of its profound effectiveness of combating human trafficking in the North East-a place that had no system before to handle this crisis. Created and implemented by Hasina Kharbhih it has taken hold in all eight states in the North East and is on its way to be national replication. Her depth of knowledge and capability of attacking the issue of human trafficking is outstanding and deserves recognition.Establishing a database information system for all stakeholders to use allows the Meghalaya Model to be a permanent system for the government and other agencies involved in anti-trafficking efforts. With a permanent database system this model can broaden its effectiveness in all of Southeast Asia.
