Become leaders of the nation: Jamir tell students

Dimapur : SC Jamir, Governor of Maharashtra has called upon students of the state to shred laziness and become leaders of the nation. “Students of Nagaland should set their aims to become the leaders of India, not only of Nagaland.”

“The students of Nagaland should shred their lathery and laziness, short sightedness, and should adopt modern and scientific techniques in their studies.” He was speaking to a team of 57 students and teachers from Nagaland on an educational tour organised by the Janjati Vikas Samiti Nagaland. Dr. Wilubo Chewang, secretary JVSN in a release informed that the 18 day “Know our Bharat-Own our Bharat” tour to Maharashtra and Goa was undertaken “to exchange ideas, share feelings, know the study habits and understand the ambitions of fellow students” of these two states.

While receiving the team at his office on January 3 along with his lady wife, Jamir impressed upon students to educate themselves on work ethics practised by fellow students of Mumbai and inculcate them. “The unending desire to do better and better,” he elaborated, “will help the students from Nagaland to be leaders of India,” the note stated.

Jamir expressed delight in receiving the students. Noting that each student has a distinct personality he told students not to copy others but look to unearth one’s inner talents. The style does not matter, but the inner strength and desire to so well in life makes the difference, he said. Also urging the present generation to uphold the distinct Naga culture he said, “The Naganess of Nagas is reflected in Naga culture and Naga religion. Nagas are endowed with rich inheritance and cultural traditions.”

Telling students to take pride in being a citizen of India he said, “The students of Nagaland should feel proud that they are Indians. The strength if India is in its moral and civilization values.” Jamir urges student to follow these values to achieve success, the note informed.

Interacting further with the students Jamir also fondly remembered late Pou NC Zeliang. Jamir noted that it was late Pou NC Zeliang through whom he got to know about Heraka Indigenous faith.

The team visited a number of important sites including Nehru Planetarium, Raja Chhatrapati Shivaji School which has 25,000 students, Hotel Taj, and Gateway of India in Mumbai while in Pune it visited Gyanprabhodini and Rani Laxmibai Girls Sainik School.

The students also performed a cultural show showcasing Naga dance and folk tradition. In Goa the students visited the state assembly and also met with the leader of the opposition party. The team was led by Aning Zeliang, Head Mistress of Zeliangrong Heraka School Tenning.
