Protest over Meghalaya govt order banning bandh

Shillong, Feb 2  Several organizations, led by the Khasi Students' Union (KSU), today held a rally here to air their protest against the Meghalaya government's recent order stating not to hold bandh, picketing, road blockades in the state.

Describing the government's January 15 order as a move to suppress democratic rights, KSU President Samuel Jyrwa alleged it was aimed at gagging dissenting voices of people.

He said road blockades and bandhs were not forcibly imposed on people.

He further said bandh was called only as last resort when the government did not respond to their just demands.
