Huge consignment of drugs seized

Shillong, Feb 12 A huge consignment of illicit drugs worth over Rs 50 lakh was today seized by Customs in Meghalaya.

Around 600 cartons of phensidyl, concealed under toys, were being transported in a truck bearing Jammu and Kashmir registration to Bangladesh via Agartala when it was intercepted at Khliehriat, Customs officials told PTI.

The driver of the truck has been detained and investigation was on, they said, adding the drugs are suspected to have been brought from Bihar.

This is the second big consignment of contraband drugs seized in the state in four days.

On Sunday, around 35,000 bottles of codeine-based phensidyl concealed inside potato bags were seized on NH 40 in Shillong. The drugs were worth Rs 25 lakh and being taken to Bangladesh through the same route.
