Street vendors' regional meeting held at Guwahati

Imphal, December 18 : The first regional meeting of the street vendors of the North Eastern states was held under the banner of National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI) on December 14 at Hotel Alankar, Chandmari in Guwahati.

Sharif Ahmed from Shillong, Meghalaya presided over the meeting and Shitangshu Taye, programme coordinator of NASVI represented the association at the meeting.

Fourteen members representing four North Eastern states, namely Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura attended the meeting.

The meeting elected four members for the regional coordinating committee of NASVI to look after its activities in NE states.

Sharif Ahmed of Shillong is the president, Hari Prasanna Saha of Tripura and Mrs Moni Bhuyan of Assam are the vice-presidents, Kambam Seityajit of Manipur is the secretary, Dipti Kumar Basumatary of Assam is the treasurer and Mrs Bordoloi of Assam is the joint secretary respectively.

The problems of street vendors of each state were discussed at the meeting, and major steps like implementation of the national policy on urban street vendors-2009 were taken as target for the North Eastern states, a press release issued by programme coordinator, NASVI, Shitangshu Taye informed.
