Central Silk Board assure of early commencement of 2nd phase

Imphal, December 12 2009: Member secretary of the Central Silk, Union ministry of textile, Sheityabati who was on her two day visit in the state today assured that all require materials for the commencement of second phase of the Manipur Sericulture Project will be provided for early commencement of the phase.

Sheityabati left Imphal for New Delhi concluding her visit in the state.

She arrived here in Imphal to inspect functioning of the externally aided Manipur Sericulture Project taken up in the state.

During interaction with media persons at Hotel Imphal before leaving Imphal, she said the first phase of the project had been completed.

Central Silk Board has received a proposal for the commencement of the second phase from the state government.

The board examined the proposal.

For early commencement of the second phase, required process for sanction of funds will be completed within January next year so as to enable commencement of the project from April 2010 .

With regard to her finding during inspection, Sheityabati observed equipments using at the sericulture project farm operating unit (FOU), Cocoon Rearing Centre (CRU) and other units outdated and said that latest equipments will be supplied at the earliest.

She also while observing shortage of manpower in the project, 87 additional staff will be sanctioned.

Consultations with the officials of the project on the early commencement of the second phase project were held, she added.
