Designing architecture for humanity

When Cyclone Nargis struck the southeast Asian nation of Myanmar in 2008, it devestated an entire region, killing 140,000 people. But that’s where Cameron Sinclair stepped in. He’s the co-founder of Architecture for Humanity, a non-profit organization that provides design, construction, and development services to communities suffering from natural disasters, poverty, and conflict.
He organized a relief effort, employing design professionals in Myanmar, and neighbouring Thailand, to rebuild a more fortified community and health centres. Currently, they’re planning to reconstruct the affected schools in the area and give them a better design, to withstand any other potential storms.
Sinclair, and his online network of 40,000 architects, are working on projects like this in nearly twenty different countries.
