Slice of India in Tripura puja pandals

AGARTALA, Sept 26 – One can have the privilege of seeing a slice of India, if he or she goes pandal-hopping during the Durga pujas in this capital town of Tripura.

Replicas of Birala Planetarium of Kolkata, Kamakshya temple of Guwahati, Sun temple of Konarak, Dal Lake of Kashmir were built in various pandals.

Besides, the 26/11 terror attack of Mumbai, the launch of Chandrayan-I from Sriharikota are also shown by lighting arrangements in some pandals.

Many Durga idols were built by artisans of Kumartuli, the clay modellers colony of Kolkata, several pandals were decorated with lights by the designers from Chandan Nagar in West Bengal.

Thousands of visitors yesterday thronged the pandals on Saptami, the first day of the four-day long puja with security personnel having a tough time to control the crowds.

“Though the puja has begun yesterday, visitors started gathering before the pandals since Thursday. More than 5,000 security personnel were deployed here,” the police said.

Besides security personnel, various puja organisers engaged volunteers to manage the visiting queue of people.

The reason behind more crowd than previous years is the rail connectivity from different parts of the State to the capital and reduction of insurgent activities, police said.
