Assam hills on the road to peace

A
steady peace process awaits Assam's two hills districts. The DHD(J)
known as black widow rebels are surrendering the before the authorities
after unleashing several years of violence in North Cachar Hills
district. The Karbi Longri National Liberation Front (KLNLF) is also
likely to follow the suit. Barring a few top ranked cadres including
Niranjan Hojai camping outside, over 250 armed cadres have so far
deposited a huge cache of arms and ammunitions before the authorities
before being sent to ther designated camps. According to information,
the other top cadres camping outside the country would be arriving in a
few days as the Centre announced safe passage for these rebels. The
surrender process is expected to be completed by September 25.

More than one hundred cadres on Tuesday left for the designated camp at
Thanalasa ME School with a huge cache of arms and ammunition inside 8
boxes. This is how, more and more Black Widow cadres are joining the
mainstream which began on on Sunday who are keeping at the Redcross
Building at Jatinga. The entire process is being led by 2nd lieutenant
David Dimasa.

Official
sources say, the DHD(J) cadres have so far deposited AK rifle 70, M-16
rifle, 16, pistol 15, M-12 rifle 5, SLR 4, 303 rifle 4 along with 3 US
carbine, 3 lathod guns, 3UMG, and a rocket launcher. In yet another
development, the KLNLF rebels who have been mongering trouble for the
last several years in Karbi Anglong district are contemplating to
follow the suit.

According
to information, top Karbi rebel leaders are in touch with Assam's top
ranked police officers which began very recently in Guwahati. If these
so happen, the KLNLFD rebels would also have to completely surrender
before the authorities. It may be recalled that the rebel outfit's
unilateral ceasefire period will expire on September 30.
